Speakers, Instructors, and Coordinators

Pei Du: Pei is a second year Mathematics and Economics double major. She is originially from Beijing, China. She is currently taking Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra.

Jiamin Gao: Jiamin is a second year student in mathematics and pre-commerce at the University of Virginia. She transferred from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China in Fall 2008. She will be graduating with a B.A. in mathematics and B.S. in accounting in 2011.

Katherine Heller: Katherine is a PhD student at the University of Virginia with research interests in Operator Theory. She was a 2006 finalist for the University-wide Seven Society Fellowship for Superb Teaching, and has been an instructor in the Girls in Mathematics Summer Program, August 2006, August 2007, July 2008, for the 2007 and 2008 editions of the Sonja Kovalevsky Mathematics Day at UVa, and at the Mathematics and Science Day for the Young Women Leaders Program , January 2008. Katherine is also the winner of the 2009 Department of Mathematics Teaching Award.

Linda Le: Linda is a 3rd year student at the University of Virginia. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, VA. She will be graduating in 2010 with a B.A. in Mathematics and minors in Economics and Engineering Business.

Amy McCormack: Amy is a first year student at the University of Virginia, intending to major in Math. She is from Fairfax, Virginia, where she attended and recently graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She is involved in several different activities around Grounds, including Agape Christian Fellowship and the Outdoors Club. When she gets a bit of free time, she likes to read and hang out with friends.

Irina Mitrea: Irina is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Virginia. She obtained her PhD degree from the University of Minnesota in 2000. Her research interests are in the general areas of Real and Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations.

Kristen Mazur: Kristen is a first year Ph.D. student in mathematics at the University of Virginia. In May 2008 she earned a BS degree in Mathematics from Lafayette College in Easton, PA.

Diana Morris: Diana is a 4th year PhD student, studying non-associative algebras. She has taught two advanced high school math courses since coming to UVA and was involved in the Girls in Mathematics Summer Program in 2007 and 2008. Diana is a finalist in this year's edition of the Seven Society Fellowship competition for superb teaching.

Krystle Waller: Krystle is a 4th year student in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. She will be graduating with a B.S in Systems Engineering, with an Engineering Business Minor, in May 2009.

Katie Quertermous: Katie is a PhD student at the University of Virginia with research interests in the area of Operator Theory. Katie was also selected as one of 26 participants from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Science in the Tomorrow's Professor Today Program for the academic year 2006-2007. Katie was an instructor for the Girls and Mathematics Summer Program, August 2007, at the Mathematics and Science Day for the Young Women Leaders Program , January 2008, and at the two previous editions of the Sonja Kovalevsky Mathematics Day at UVa. Katie is also the winner of a Honorable Mention in the 2009 edition of the Department of Mathematics Teaching Competition.

Yingsha Song: Yingsha is a second year student at the University of Virginia. She attended Raffles Junior College in Singapore. She will be graduating in 2011 with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Mathematics.
